Heather Bakner, L.AC. RMT
My name is Heather Bakner and I have been practicing acupuncture and massage for over ten years. I trained at the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Lauterstein and Conway Massage school. In addition to learning the traditional methods of treating patients with acupuncture and herbs, I also discovered a body of work called Esoteric Acupuncture by Dr. Mikio Sankey and began incorporating his sequences into my practice.
Esoteric Acupuncture combines sacred geometry with the acupuncture needling sequences. By placing certain patterns called encodings on the body, it creates an enhanced field on the body that is very effective for treating not only the physical body, but the emotional and spiritual body as well.
In my practice, I combine acupuncture with craniosacral and hands on energy work. This practice is very effective for clearing, restructuring, and filling my clients field. Not only do clients report improvement around pain, illness, and other physical ailments, but also clearing in other areas of their lives, including psycho-emotional concerns, relationship issues and spiritual issues.
I can offer the complete set of chakra encodings in 3-4 treatments, but I recommend that the client get 6-10 treatments. The treatments build on each other and can help clients achieve greater health and functioning in their life circumstances. I have noticed that many clients who receive this body of work are able to manifest creative visions and aspirations into their lives, therefore making it an excellent modality for artists.
The chakra encodings are very powerful at releasing subconsciously held blockages. As blockages move from the subconscious into the conscious, they can then move out of the energy field altogether, allowing for an essential “reprogramming” of the system. This makes the work useful for things of a more psychological nature.

What does a treatment entail?
A treatment includes an intake, in which I review what is going on with the client and what they would like for me to treat. By using the Traditional Chinese Medicine technique of taking the pulses and looking at the tongue, I am able to formulate a personalized diagnosis and treatment protocol. After this, I formulate from my training and experience a treatment procedure and proceed with it.
After the treatment, I encourage a client to relax and take it easy. It is very important to stay grounded at this time. It is good to drink plenty of water, eat a healthy meal, and stay in a stress free mode after a treatment. Please avoid intoxicants, heavy labor, or any risky situations, like pogo sticking, bungee jumping, or walking on slick surfaces. |
After the first chakra treatment, I also recommend that people keep a journal with them during the day and at night to write down anything that seems pertinent. Dreams can indicate what is continuing to clear.
A treatment can consist of massage or acupuncture or a combination of both. I practice therapeutic massage which focuses on relieving stress and tension in the muscular system, through the use of Swedish and deep tissue massage techniques. I may incorporate range of motion or stretching in the massage as well.

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into points along meridian lines. These lines run along musculo-tendino pathways and nerve pathways and connect to internal organs, like the lung or large intestine. One common question I receive is, “Does acupuncture hurt?” My answer is that the most of the time, the insertion of the needles is painless. However, occasionally there may be a painful point due to stagnation within the body. I call this a “renegade point.” If you experience a renegade point that hurts, the pain should subside quickly, but if it does not, I ask the client to please let me know so that I can adjust or remove that particular pin.
Once the needles are inserted, I ask the client to relax. At this point, I place my hands on the table or gently on the client with certain craniosacral holds or other holds and connect with the client to facilitate energy work. I can also facilitate energy work by holding my hand over the client or by just concentrating on them. I use my presence and holding on the body to further facilitate energy movement and clearing. This process creates a feedback loop between the client’s central nervous system and peripheral nervous system that allows the body to self harmonize. After the needles have been in the body anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes, I remove the pins. I then may turn the client over to treat the other side. |
What to expect?
After a treatment, I ask clients to rest, especially within the first 24 to 48 hours. Avoid stressful situations in this time period, that is best. Avoid intoxicants, heavy labor, and risky situations. Remember to stay grounded and present with yourself as your body adjusts to the energetic changes. The client can envision themselves as if within a cocoon. Within 3 to 4 days the treatment will be integrated more fully.
Indeed, you may feel more tired within the days after a treatment, so allow yourself to lay down, and rest even if only for five to ten minutes. Some people experience a healing reaction in certain cases, where symptoms may worsen for 24 hours. If this happens, allow yourself to rest and your body to clear. Acupuncture and energy work are very effective for removing stagnation, so please keep this in mind. If you receive a treatment for cramps, PMS, or other uterine problems please know that the energy can open up and move. Protect yourself if you do not wish to conceive. |
